Recommend Gaming headphones?

I'd recommend the Speedlink Medusa 5.1s. They're surround sound headphones so they're especially good for gaming. I think they're great, the surround sound works well so you can hear where people are coming from in games and stuff like that. They're really comfortable and have a decent mic as well. They don't have the best sound quality ever but they're more than good enough for gaming, although probably not for serious music listening. Finally, they're nice and cheap too (£30)!

Hello

I personally bought the Medusa 5.1 USB headsets just because they were £30 cheaper than the other gaming headphones out there. Started off well, but the microphone is found lacking when it comes to teamspeak/ventrillio. This is quite annoying when your teammates constantly say they cant hear you  Now, these (with the USB soundcard) include virtual 5.1 surround sound, which is quite good, and adequate for gaming.

Now, there headsets such as the icemat siberias have decreased in price rapidly. They are only £40 on OcUK, and they offer superior sound in games and music. Their only downpoint is thier build quality, with many reported complaints about them breaking easily. However, if you dont plan on going to lan parties i doubt these headsets will take much damage. Their mic is a clip on device, like the ones they use in TV interviews, and is also quite weak.

There is an option of buying the optional Icemat Sound card, £19 form OcUK as well. The main selling point of this card is that it offers virtual 7.1 surround sound if the game supports it. This offers that extra edge for the gamer.

As you have a 7.1 soundcard, i would just purchase the icemats without the soundcard. If you plan to travel with the headsets and want the same quality sound no matter what pc you use, buy the USB soundcard as well.

--Alternative Choice--

Now, if you are feeling like breaking the £50 barrier, the best headset is avaliable for purchase, the Steelsound 5h. These have had brliiant reviews all over the internet, and thier microphone is excellent, build quality excellent, sound quality excellent, but thier price expensive. These also have thier own optional soundcard, but i have yet to see a UK retailer selling the headsets with thier USB soundcard... If you dont feel like spending £50, the icemats offer the same sound quality for a lesser price.

I bought the Sennheiser PC-160 headset, amazing sound quality awesome bass. Some reviews made me worried as they said the bass was lacking, think their soundcards were crap tho, however they cost £60, they are on offer this week only on OcUK

The USB version isn't meant to be nearly as good as the regular one, which may be why Prozone was having issues with his set. The normal version uses whatever sound card you have in your computer, in this case an Audigy 2 which is a very good card. It's going to be way better than the soundcard integrated into the USB version of the Medusas. Have a look at this review, it compares the different versions of the medusas.

The go for the Zalman theatre 6s, build quality is great and they'll last you for very long time. Had mine god knows how long.

sound output is top notch and the surround is accurate. :D great pair of headphones.

The microphone is high quality as well, one of the best i've found.

Check out some of the third party reviews on the zalman site if your not convinced! (awards won etc.)

I've also owned the Zalmans and I'm sorry to say they sound even worse than the Medusas.

I find that hard to believe, although sounding a little bassy (easily fixed) the zalmans are one of the best sets i've ever owned for the price, i've got several mates with pairs that are all satisfied.

Good compared to what though, have you ever heard any decent headphones/speakers? Seriously I've owned both the Zalman and Medusa surround sound headsets (still got the Medusas but I don't use them), and they both sound pretty awful, with the Zalmans being a good bit worse. I wouldn't recommend either. They sound far worse than my old Sennheiser HD433 (which were only £20), or my Koss KSC-75s which were £15.

I'm not the only one who thinks this, I've read comments by plenty of other people with the same opinion. One guy on AV Forums described the Zalmans as sounding like sound through a drainpipe, which is pretty much how I felt about them too.

I mean ok, it doesn't matter as much for games, but still there's no reason to put up with bad sound in games. A pair of decent quality stereo headphones connected to an X-Fi doing it's pseudo surround sound trickery would be a much better solution. It's not like those two headsets even do particularly convincing surround sound IMO.

I have a set of Medusa non USB and I think their wicked, had to send first set back as mic went floppy (no jokes pls..hehe) but they are great for gaming, and I have just ordered an creative X-Fi xtreme card from OCUk so Im hoping gaming will be more intense!!!!! BF2 sounds stunning with these headphones....!!!

a vote for steelsound here. THe mic is on a push in, pull out type wire thing so you can put it away. Good sound quality and 3 meter cable, or you can disconnect it and have it short for a mp3/cd player.

Perfect
