I have a 120GB vertex 2 SSD and A 320GB 7200RPM HDD.

I'm currently using them for my Alienware M11X which is an 11 inch gaming laptop, but it only has one SATA slot for 1 drive at a time. (2.5inch bay)

I love the SSD speeds but hate the space issues, after 1-2 games are installed its full.
Now i love the space on my 320GB HDD but i hate the waiting on bootup, say if i just want to boot up in uni to edit a file, it takes forever compared to the SSD.

Could anyone recommend a better solution?
Ideally i want something with around 750gb-1.5TB of storage space BUT FAST SPEEDS.
I have heard about the hybrid drives but i'm not completely sold on them (but am open to convincing!)
Are they're any kind of 10,000rpm HDD drives for laptops?

Thanks guys.

Keep the SSD for speed of OS and apps. Get either a USB external HDD or if you have a wireless connection at home get a NAS drive which will then be able to serve files to you wirelessly at home and over the Internet at uni.

I have one which streams video and music to my ps3 and pc by a wire and wirelessly to my iPad (and can be used by any other devices with access to my network). It also backs up my pc data. Though, if you only need documents on the go, you could always just use dropbox.

Depending on your budget you can get different solutions. Mine is a one piece set up with 1tb space which cost c.£90 about a year ago. If you have more cash, you can get ones which let you swap out multiple HDDs.

Of course, this does still leave you with speed issues for non-SSD games. The NAS will be as fast as the disk it uses, unless your network is slower. I have booted games from mine and while they work fine once loaded, I would say that the loading times are a bit worse than an internal HDD. But you can always swap them on and off your SSD to the NAS as and when you want them.

Western digital my book world (white light edition) 1tb; I think the model is still current. It's one of the best purchases I ever made for media content; it can really help get the most out of that film rental subscription.

The all-in-one set up is great, windows 7 recognises it straight away and you just use it like a normal drive. I will probably have to buy a new NAS enclosure + hdd set up sooner or later because the capacity can't be upgraded, but it will last a little longer.

SSD for Boot and Necassary applications, 1-2TB External for Games Backups files so you can install whatever games you want to play without having to download them several times over and Storage.
