My main iMac (2019 model) currently has a couple of external drives connected to it, an old 500Gb SSD and a 4TB WD Passport drive. The 4TB drive is partitioned with 1TB for Time Machine backup and the the remaining gets used for photo/video editing (overflow from the 500Gb SSD). Well after backing up a whole load of video footage to it last night I managed to drop the drive and it's making some very suspect clicking noises so I need to replace.
Been ages since I purchased new storage so what should I be going for, an SSD or a nvme type device? and assuming its not worth bothering with a standard external HD these days when it comes to performance?
Any pointers/recommendations given appreciated, cheers!
