I work with Oracle and sql server all day at work but only have a very basic grasp of SQL, I need to get smart with it.

I can programme in other languages so probably looking for something a little more advanced than a Sams teach yourself, also something I can easily reference would be good.

Thanks.

Aha, i now have a chance to pimp a creation of one of my lecturers.

I give you all......... ActiveSQL

It's by no means exhaustive, and only really deals with SELECT at the moment but that's a pretty big bit and it's a great introduction to get you into it. You can even register for an account so that you can keep a record of your progress and results.

how advanced can SQL get?

SQL Queries for Mere Mortals stood me in good stead at university. any half-decent "teach yourself" book will do, to be honest, there's really not that much to learn in SQL. depending on how serious your needs are, it might be worth picking up something like the Connolly-Begg database book as well, as a reference for normalization etc
