Our little one's almost 8 months old now, and properly sitting up by himself, getting too big for the travel system seat that we're currently using.

Looking for something either group 1, 1&2, or 1,2,3, with 1,2,3 obviously being the preferred option if it's cheaper but still as safe, and hopefully coming in at under £100!

It'll be going in a 2000(W) Megane Scenic facelift, any advice much appreciated, as I'm pretty clueless about this stuff!

Does your car have the ISOFIX mountings built into the rear seat? If so this makes it a lot easier to take the seat in and out as there is no faffing around with the seat belt. It does narrow down the choice of seats somewhat though.

Pretty much any will fit into that scenic

Personally I'd go for one that reclines however the group 1+2+3 wouldn't do that

You could get something like a britax eclipse @ ~£80 however that only does upto 4 but then again thats only £30ish a year

Head Down to mothercare or Halfords

both are great for buying advice and will fit it for you etc.. they will even let you take the display model and trial fit your car.

Its pretty self explanatory stuff chilld car seats

Group 1 seats are 9months / 9kg up to 4 years / 18kg and are forward facing. These have their own restraints for the child, with the seat itself secured by the seatbelt / isofix points

Group 2 /3 seats are from 4 years up untill the point they are tall enough for a booster seat. They are restrained by the seatbelt, and are ideal for that point in their life when they just dont reach the seatbelt with a boster seat. Converts into a group 3 (or just plain booster seat) when they're big enough to do so.

There are group 1 / 2 /3 combination seats available. But i was advised to get a dedicated group 1 seat and buy a cheap group 2/3 seat when i needed it.

oh one other thing

Halfords are having 10 % of child seats at the moment so give them a try. Our little 'un had a Britax Eclipse as his Group 1 seat. Currently available for £109 from halfords

Only slightly over your budget, but served our little 'un very well. We were pranged twice during his time in it, (somebody went into the back of us, and another time somebody pulled out of a junction into the side of us) and both time he was unscathed.

Comes heavily recommended from me.

Just one thing if you have a big lad (as in not fat but solid/heavy) then you may find it not lasting 3 years :(

I got a goup1 @ 8 Months (even though they were 2 months early!)

And then I had to get another seat when they were 2yr2m as they were 19kg

Cheers for all the replies, will pop to a few baby places next weekend and see what they can do for me.
The mother in law works for Waitrose, so gets 25% discount at a large retailer, will look into what they have too, can't do any harm! ;)

From reading around, Britax have about the best name around. Check their website. Assuming you go for an Isofix group 1, then I think there's only one seat, ie their Duo. I'll be ordering one myself in the near future.

Is Isofix a necessity, or any safer than standard fitment?

The seat might need to be put in parent's/in-law's cars too, and I've no idea whether or not they'd be Isofix compatible too.

From my experience, ISOFIX seats always have a little sewn in tab like a clothing tag on some clothes to let you know if it's an ISOFIX seat. But it's also an optional extra on somecars, so just if one does another might not sorta thing :(

It's almost finding some girl and getting her up the duff just to buy an awesome seat like this:
