I'm after a hard drive for a boot drive and also for a backup drive. I've been thinking of getting either 2 Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache ( 1 for backup & 1 for main drive) or 1 Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache (backup) and a Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache (for main)

What are peoples opinions on these drives?
DId think about a Raptor for my main drive, but the cost is off putting

If you want something other than or smaller than the F1 as a boot drive then look at either the 320Gb or 640Gb WDs, they're faster than the 500Gb one.

Thanks, just looked at the WD Caviar Black 640GB but its out of stock on OC at the moment, probably a good thing so dont blow more of my wages before I get them.

there's not that much performance difference between the blue & black

they're both super fast

you wane raptor for boot :D

HAHA dont tempt me, I know how quick they can be, especially when in RAID like the first Raptors I had a few years back, I'm just not sure if the £190 for a 300gig drive is really worth it, especially when I hear how the newer drivers are relatively as quick in comparison

don't get that

get a WD640 or a Samsung F1-640

the 640 drives are faster than the 500 and 750's

there cant be much in it between the wd 640 320 platter drives and the seagate 375 platter .11's ?
I'd get the 750gb seagate .11 b grade or even the b grade 1tb one.
