I need a 1TG HDD. Can someone recommend one based on my PC spec in my signature.

I really haven't been following updates in the hardware world - I've been blogged down in software and my PC has served me rather well :).

what about a SSD in the 100GB+ region, because I need to compile software often. And another HDD for mass storage?

What would the choices then?

Wow - is Western Digital still in the market? I bought one of their drives 10 years ago and I swear that things fires up like it's brand new everytime!

Hi mohbana

You don't show what OS your are using. Not sure if WinXP is suitable/able to make full use of SSD.

Have just bought a Samsung HD103SJ from OC and although some people say it is noisy I have found it to be even quieter than my Samsung HD502IJ which I found to be quiet anyway.

So would agree with stulid, it's a cracker.

I run a quiet system and I found that my new F3 1TB vibrates through my case with a thrumming sound. As soon as I put it in and switched on I noticed the change.

I have suspended it now using bungee cord and it's reasonably quiet next to my WD 500GB Blues. Still, any drive rotating at 7200rpm is going to make a noise.

Is Samsung f4>F3>F1 and are they quiet ?

People say the F3s are quiet. But the F3 I bought last week to replace 2 Hitachi 7000Ks is nearly as noisy as the pair were together in raid. Which has been a slight dissapointment.

It is _very_ quiet when not being accessed, which is perhaps what some refer too. But its the noisiest thing in my machine by far [passive water cooled gfx card] because Windows never really stops accessing.

Hi JT

You could try changing the Automatic Acoustic Management setting but, according to a review, it may not reduce access noise by much and will increase access time.

You could also turn off some/all of the processes Windows is 'continually' accessing.

Not finding access noise a problem using WinXP.
