Recommend me a mouse

I had the G500 and the button placement is a bit of a mess, hard to reach dpi buttons, cumbersome forward/back button arangement with a annoying third button underneath you will keep accidentally pressing. Also the inclusion of a switchable scroll wheel is a bit weird in a gaming mouse, its of no use in games.

Go for the G400.
 
I currently have a Gigabyte M6800 and I like how it feels a lot, so do you think g400 is comparable to that?

Can anyone recommend a good mousemat? i'm on a table top at the mo, it's ok, but in no way is it smooth, it's pitted. I play some FPS , such as Ghost Recon, and I think it is costing me accuracy.

Currently have an MX 518.
 
I am looking for a mouse with a good mouse wheel and click button. I have tried the logitech g5 and the g400 (my current mouse). Has anyone tried those mouse's and knows of a mouse with a better mouse wheel?

the g400 I currently use has a rattly very loose and plasticy (cheap) click button the wheel is noisy and uneven.

I'm quite a fan of Zowie mousemats, their mice aren't quite upto scratch sadly but their (his) mousemats have the best surfaces I've ever used bar none for retaining precision - my current favorite being this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-013-ZW&groupid=702&catid=32&subcat=
