I'm looking for a SATA card so I can put more SATA drives in to my file server. I don't want RAID, I just want as many SATA ports for a decent price.

Minimum amount of ports is 4, My budget is around £80, but I'm happy to change it if necessary.

I don't mind if it's PCI-E or PCI, whichever card is the better one.

Thanks in advance :p

Why can't you just put one of these belkin pci cards in? £15 with 4 external ports. They should all be similar performance

Unless I'm missing something ??

You're missing something :p

That would be a USB card. While I'm looking for an internal SATA card so I can add more SATA hard drives to my PC. :)

I've looked at SATA cards, but I have no clue what I should buy and what would be best.

I would avoid the PCI SATA controllers as your limited to 133MB/s TOTAL bandwidth. Also with most add-on internal ones, you get RAID which is a nice bonus.

I would consider the following:

Adaptec RAID 1430SA

Its a 4 port PCI-E card and the only one I would recommend at your price range. A quick froogle shows that the card can be had for <£60 delivered.

lol, for some reason my brain read SATA as USB :)

The lights are on but nobody is home this evening...

Thanks romeo, anyones that have 8 ports for roughly twice the price? As I'd end up getting 2 4 port ones anyway. I have the intention of having full TV series, anime series, ISO rips of all my games and backups on my file server.
