I would like a SatNav with the following features:

-Good at giving directions
-Shows speed cameras
-Shows traffic jams and offers alternative routes

I would rather consider the full range of possible ones so I will not set a budget.

Please make recommendations?

You won't go wrong with a TomTom. I've used a couple of other brands and they are pants in comparison, if I were to buy my own GPS, it would be a TomTom no doubt

There is absolutely narf all wrong with the TomTom One:

You do have to pay on top of that for the safety cameras though.

Actually no, that comes with locations. But you'd have to pay for updated locations - not sure how much.

It depends if you want fancy things, you don't get uber-fancy 3d graphics, FM broadcasting, music, auto brightness, etc on the TomTom one, but you don't really need that lot anyway.

You could pay a bit more and get a bigger touch screen if you like;

I wuv my TomTom one.

Still, doesn't stop me planning all of my journeys with a map and using that en-route.

TomTom sometimes throws many people off on unnecessary detours, or idiotic loops of roadway they shouldn't be on in the firstplace.

Good for getting to destinations in inner-urban areas though, which is what I use it for mostly - well, that and making sure I am actually going how fast as whatever car I tend to be driving actually says I am..

I have a TomTom GO 700 and recently replaced it with a 910 as I was offered it at price that i couldnt refuse, it is MUCH better!

Bigger screen, faster gps locking, more sattelites, and the best one must be the text to speach, gives far more natural directions and a much better idea, ie rather than "go right on the roundabout, 3rd exit" like the 700, the 910 says "go right on the roundabout, third exit towards birmingham", and also reads out any traffic problems etc if it's connected to the mobile. Also, for speed camera alerts it can read out the speed limit for you etc :)

not all tomtoms are equal ;)

oh yea, the dock has a line out, so it can go into a headunit.....it also has a 20gb internal hdd, so I actually use it for all my music, and the directions pause the music too :) Much easier to hear directions over the car stereo too. Also, the bluetooth handsfree is far better on this than on the older models.

Is that the best TomTom out at the moment?

how much bandwidth does the TT use is is a certain rate 24/7 or just every now and then?

mine is set up to update every 10 minutes, and i think we calculated over the 4 or 5 hours it was connected to andys phone it used about 200kb if that, and with data prices these days, it's SFA, i get 3gb a month on my contract

thats quite good then, always wanted to give it a go but at o2 rates (£3 a meg) didnt want to risk a big bill

I think it worked too, driving from Manchester to Kent between 3pm and 8pm, we didnt get stuck in ANY traffic even passing london at like 6pm! It did redirect us a few times after warning us of massive queues too.

the 720 is the newest, but the 910 is still the best all round specced I think and costs more from tomtom's website

I was under the impression that the Tom Tom Go 910 was discontinued?

The Go 910 is a crap unit, it was when it was launched and still is now.
