Recommend me a SCART cable

Hello,

I've just about got together all the components for my first attempt at a home entertainment system (widescreen TV, DVD player/recorder, freeview box, VCR, 5.1 amplifier etc.). The individual components are all pretty much mid-range specification, and all I have left to decide on now is which scart cables to get to link them together.

I don't want to pay the earth, but it would be good to have something of reasonable quality which will hopefully last through future upgrades.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks :)

I have a middle-of-the-road system.

Think it cost about £1000-£1200 in total so went with Thor scarts all round and am very pleased. Managed to pick mine up for £18 each. I would say the next quality up would be the QED Squart (Yes spelt with a Q)

I use the ones that come out of the box.
The only cables i have is a £9.99 set of componant cables going from my DVD player to my tv, and i only paid that because that was all that was available in town.
I truthfully cannot see the difference between expensive and cheap cables.

I was a bit of a sceptic until I saw the difference that a decent SCART makes it really was like an upgrade. I was lucky, I bought a new AV amp and the seller bunged it in as he didn't need it anymore it sat in the box for ages until I moved my equipment around, once I tried it out I never looked back, it maybe that my original SCART was rubbish and this one is OK but once installed I could see a massive difference.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

The total cost of my kit so far has come to around £850 so I think I can justify spending a bit on some decent scart cables.

I think most likely I'll be going for the Thor cables, I was looking at these anyway and they do seem good for the price.

Well, im still a sceptic to be honest, in not running cheap stuff either its all decent equipment for an average house, 2k television, £600 DVD player, the amp was £250, and i cant see the difference, at all.

No disrespect to you mate, but I find that a bit difficult to believe.

I know the only benefit of using good cables will be to allow your equipment to show it's true potential and will not compensate for having a bad TV or DVD player, but I would have thought that using the cheap £1.99 or so cables you see in places like supermarkets is asking for trouble.

Theres just no way they can be manufacured to anything like the same standard of some of the quality cables you see, and surely something has to be missed out to keep the costs down?

Just my thoughts anyway.

I have never, ever seen a difference between cabling either, the only difference i have ever found between cables is the quality of the sheilding when running next to power cords, sometimes with really crap cables i will get ghosting.

Be careful with cable placement though and i just cant see the difference. Thats running decent sources into decent displays.

I have a saturday job at a competitor and I play around changing cables over all the time. The difference, to me, between a £9.99 SCART lead and a £45 one is huge - certainly my boss will not let me set up any half decent TV with a cheap SCART - and customers always comment on the couple of tv's that are going through a cheap SCART converter block (1-4) as looking particularly bad.

Me either, I think my TV struggles with RGB input because the picture through the AV41 Squart I bought was a lot worst than my £3 jobby. My TV is a Sharp Aquos LC 26GA4E

atpbx, if youve got a £2,000 TV and a £600 DVD player why on earth are you connecting them together via Scart ?
I must admit id never use the cables that come in the box but i also wouldnt spend a fortune on them. some good quality middle of the range ones is fine.
Ahh you do say youve got a componant cable...ill get me coat ;)
