Recommend me a socket set!

Anything autodata gives a torque value gets done with a toque wrench when im doing any work, a good habit to get into if you ask me

The whole 12 sided socket being pants is WAY overplayed.

I've snapped far more bolts and studs clean in half than i have rounded off nuts.

I do have 6 sided sockets in my kit but i only break them out when doing some REALLY high torque stuff.

Got loads of Halfords Pro / Advanced stuff and it's great kit for the money, can't fault it.

Love my halfords set, can't fault it over the last 9 years of service.

Also picked up a short rail with 6 sided impact sockets for those tough suspension bolts.

The halfords 150 set does come with 6 point sockets, don't see why people are getting in a tizzy.

I have a Halfords set, 40 pieces I think, has 6 sided and 12 point in various sizes overlapping. I think I might have been better buying a decent wrench and some sockets on a rail though.

Got both 6 & 12 point sockets, but I only use 6-point sockets when using a torque wrench.
Just something that my old boss drummed into me many years ago.

Would also look at a set of 6 point impact sockets, very handy to have.

another +1 for the Halfords 150pc. Has 6-points for all the important sizes, and more awesomely - ratchet ring spanners!! Torx and Etorx too.

Teng mecca Rosso set if you can find it.

Little bit more than £150 though.

Ok it's a lot more than £150 at £249, but its a lot higher quality than you will get from halfords.
Mine has seen me from 2004 till now, it's been the central piece of my tool set and has been involved in anything I've done mechanically.

As well as using the screw drivers to build my PCs, install washing machines, DIY etc etc.
Other than the case being oily there's not a spec of rust and the sockets are still movement free.

If you've already got some decent ratchets you might want to consider some of the Clarke Pro sockets. Absolutely dirt cheap, 6 sided and can withstand at LOT of abuse.

A disappointingly short amount of time my well used Halfords sockets began to develop cracks while my Clarke stuff that was bought to replace it has out lasted it with even more day to day usage.

How the hell did you break a halfords socket? I've swung off them in the past and not managed to split on, broken a couple of torx bits but that's just because of my awesome alpha male strength.

Calliper bolts. Any Halfords size that held on a calliper carrier would get split within 3-6 months on fairly common usage (I'd do brakes about once a fortnight) where a tenner set of Clarke stuff from Machine mart lasted a year.

Had Halfords ones crack on multiple sizes. Not impressed.
