Basically, I have been trying to do a little research on SSD's.... I am more confused than what I was at the start lol! Basically, I just want an SSD to put a few games on (Mostly MMO's). I probably won't put windows on it, as this is a prebuilt system so I don't have windows disc or anything.

Thanks! :D

That's a shame as Windows on SSD is an enlightening experience (compared to regular hard drives).

EDIT: You could image your existing Windows install onto an SSD with some freeware tools. Someone will be along to advise the current favorites soon I expect.

From what I have been reading though, imaging can make it quite fiddly? Would be glad to be proved wrong though to be honest!

there is software that will get your windows key for you so you can do a new install, and places to legit download windows onto a cd

I doubt you'd see much difference with games on an ssd, only a few games would show improved loading times

So it is only really worth getting a SSD for Windows, and leaving games to mechanical drives?

Depends on the style of game really.

I keep most of my games on mechanical drives. For games where there are constant little loads from disc, its not that big a deal. Where I did see a difference was when playing MMOs - I would find my character would zones much quicker, especially when entering a raidzone.

But I wouldn't say an SSD changed my MMO playing experience that much. Yeah its good for the kudos of being first, but if you still have to wait for others to load up.. does it really make that much difference?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldnt willingly go back to running Windows and apps off a mechanical drive anymore unless I had to. Its just so snappy and responsive in comparison.

There are utilities to move programs from SSD to HD and back again as well if you dont want to manually install things to your D: drive (for example).
