She who must be obeyed has instructed me to source a toaster to replace the piece of **** that has a mind of it's own when it comes to reliable browning of bread.

She requires no more than a two slicer given due to a medical condition I no longer can eat solid foods. It would be useful if the slots were wide enough to take a toastie, two slices of bread and filling inside a bag and perhaps have a warming facility for rolls ETC.
 
Wasn't there an in depth thread on here recently where some poor sod thorough investigator trialled a bunch of toasters to get proper browning? Might have been in La Cuisine..

I think you're assessment of the "poor sod" is pretty accurate, although i read the whole thing so can't comment too much :(

I think the outcome was no matter how much you spend it'll end up uneven!
 
Have you tried a brass toasting fork in front of a hot fire. - Perfect toast in seconds. :):) - perhaps not you can only put beef dripping and salt on fire toast.
