I am looking for a good 80Gb drive for around £35-£40(I don't need anymore and cannot afford anymore). I would like it to be quiet, Fast (SATA2 300mb poss?) and have 16mb cache (if possible in this price bracket). Thanks for any help! :D

EDIT: I would go for a 40Gb if it meant I could get fast SATA and 16mb cache :)

SATA II isn't an issue on small drives, but as far as I'm aware drives with 16MB of cache only start on 250GB models and above.

Nevermind. I just ordered the Samsung Spinpoint P HD080HJ 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache. Good choice?

would have gone for a deskstar myself.

It's nice that someone else has posted, but may I ask why, it's not very useful just saying that.

If he'd gone for a Seagate he'd have got 5 year warranty over 3 years offered by many others, if it's a pure data drive I'd have gone for that. Samsungs are supposed to be very good for silence, so that's their main advantage in addition to their good reputation. Could go through all the manufacturers but at the end of the day they are all pretty similar, why'd you choose a deskstar?

i've got 2 x samsung drives, and you can't hear them, really love those drives. Also have a WD and a Maxtor, you can hear the Maxtor above all the drives.

Yeah. My case sounds like a mini-airport so silence isn't a factor. I'm thinking of getting a RAID 1 setup of 250GB+ drives, so I'm most tempted by Seagate or possibly WD. I've had bad experiences with Maxtor, new drive died within 18 months on a years warranty (old warranty status) which wasn't very nice, they don't seem very reliable. Also, I've got a Raptor as my windows drive so speed isn't important for holding mp3/movies/pictures.
