Don't let it put you off of trying FC1. FC2 is developed by a completely different set of people, not one developer remained to create FC2. The setting was different, the main character was gone, the whole game had no relation to its predecessor. The only reason it exists is because Ubisoft published FarCry1 and owned the Intellectual Property, Crytek now create games to be published by EA and so left the farcry name behind.
The 'real' sequel to Far Cry 1 was actually Crysis, it was developed by the same people (Crytek) and had a similar play style and setting.
FC2 was essentially a company doing their best to cash in on the success of a known title. It was so obvious this would be the case i actually said it would suck several times before it was released.

It can barely run on a pc. Theres no point playing Crysis unless you can play with the graphics on high. The gameplay is worse than far cry 2.
Well you sound certain! It's not been a big seller on PC though has it? Compared to other things like Call of Duty 4 and whathaveyou.
It's sold pretty well tbh, crytek just cried about piracy as it wasn't the best selling game ever. While CryEngine 3 does indeed work on consoles i doubt they could recreate Crysis on it; the huge expanses of land, insane number of physics objects and generally large number of AI on each map would just be too much for a console. They would have to completely redesign the game in order to get it working, so they may as well just make a new game from scratch.

Aye but were people of the same mindset when the original Far Cry came out? With vast lands, beautiful water effects, decent AI, etc. Then it magically appeared on the Xbox and wasn't THAT bad. It had the core gameplay in it and was decent looking.
Very true, however FarCry actually RAN on PCs when it came out, i recall just about having it running on high settings even on my only marginally-above average computer. With crysis, even with the best setups today, PCs still struggle with crysis on the highest settings.
A combination of being poorly optimised and just too damn demanding.
That's part of the key - what if they could do better optimization thanks to the fixed console architecture and surely the improvements that have come with CryEngine 3? You'll have to forgive me for arguing the point because I haven't played Crysis nor Crysis Wars so I don't know what technical obstacles there are regarding gameplay.

I ended up buying Prince of Persia and MotorStorm Pacific Rift.
I'll probably sell FC2 on the MM or hopfully swap it for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm (if anyone has it)
