I'd like some recommendations for some 'proper' cans for up to £100, the cheaper the better :)

I had some Medusa 5.1 and god they were terrible :( I couldn't wear them for more than 30 minutes, I felt like they were suffocating me. Not to mention the echo'ing sounds.

My requirements are that they must be comfortable, so that I can wear them for hours without any concern. I'll be using them for Music/Gaming/Movies in my bedroom, I have Shure E2C's for outdoors. I want some decent all rounders, I listen to kinds of music (Trance/D&B/Electronica/Hip-Hop/R&B/Rock etc.). I may prefer open cans (They're meant to be 'airier'?) as I did tend to feel really uncomfortable with the medusa's with my ears being pushed into my head, more of a claustrophobic 'feeling'. I'm just assuming that was down to the medusa's padding.

I'll be using them with my HDA Mystique soundcard but I will most likely have either the headphones plugged into the headphone socket on Logitech Z-5500 or use a splitter. I don't intend on buy any after market products such as a headphone amp.

Here's my short-list:

Sennheiser HD595 (Really leaning towards these atm, due to their rumoured uber-comfort and sound) - £85 Delivered
Alessandro MS-1'S (Seen some cracking reviews but apparently they're not as comfortable?) - $100 - Works out to about £60 Delivered?
AKG 240 Studio (Meant to sound great for the price) - £65 mark Delivered
Beyerdynamic DT770/DT990 Pro (Seen a lot of people recommend these) - £80/£95 Delivered
Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - £85 Delivered
Grado SR80's (I've heard the Alessandro's are better bang for buck, but may aswell add them to the list) - £90 or so Delivered

I'd really appreciate any advice/recommendations you guys can put forward :)

I have the AKG's, excellent for the price. Can't really compare to the others though as have no experience of them.

AKGS just sit on your head no need for messing with headbands becuase they auto adjust, they look stupid, but they are really comfortable so ideal for long use. The sound is really nuetral and clean sounding which is exactly how I like my sound, so this comes donw to personal preference.

Also there are semi-closed so aren't as loud to people around you as the open cans. Good for late night porn watching without disturbing other people :p

The lead also detaches so good for transporting around without the cable dangling around everywhere.

For that price you can't go wrong imo.

I'm interested to see what people suggest, since i'm very much in the same position. I just bought some Medusas, but the subwoofer speakers in them don't work so i'm sending them back. Whatever i get, i'll be using them for gaming, mainly, but with a little music-listening on the side (not really enough to warrant getting some suited to music over a better-suited pair for gaming). I'm inclined to get either the HD595s or DT770 Pros (80ohm); the former is my favourite at the moment, but i'm beginning to favour the latter because the more hard-hitting bass will probably be better in games.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's, I think that the 880's are a step up but am not so sure.

I had them for a year and they eventually stopped working but that's because of what happened a few times while I was drunk (dropping them and stuff).

They sounded really really good and were a huge step up from anything that I have used before.

If you can stretch your budget another £10 then try to get the Audio Technica ATH-A900. I got them outside the UK from a place that even pays all of your import charges! (Otherwise sold here for £180)!! (Google for it, it's from a place called yesasia.com.

I'm still burning them in, and am not really sure if they're an improvement over the DT770's yet (if at all), will have to wait and see I think!

greenlizard0, i'm just about to order the Beyer DT 770 Pros but what you just said has made me interested about the ATH-A900s. Have you had a chance to use them yet; what are your thoughts so far?

no, ive got the 80ohm version

Ah, cool. I should be ordering mine in a minute. Can you please tell me how long the cable is, and where it's coiled or straight? I need to know if it's long enough to reach the sound card outputs on the back of my computer; if not, i'll need to buy the more expensive X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum sound card which comes with the front i/o panel so i can connect the headphones to the front of my case.

Thank you.

They sound very sweet and being only 64Ohm compared to 250Ohm (I got the wrong version lol) they're a lot easier to drive.

I generally listen to trance, house etc and the base is very punchy and good.

I am using the Sennheiser HD650 and without a doubt they are the most comfortable headphones that I have used in years. They are a bit out of your price range though. £180+

just did a quick measurement on mine, they are about at least 2.5m long, and my cable is straight

Pfffft, you bunch of thread-jackers :p

The HD-25's seem uncomfortable. I'm really confused on what to get, so many different great headphones available.

I'm trying to look for one that ticks all the boxes, any HD595 owners? Most owners have bragged about how comfortable they are along with the nice neutral sound they produce, so I'm slightly leaning towards them.

Any further advice/comments available?

Mmm, i'd say go for the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros. I tried them on in a store today and they were the most comfortable thing i've ever put on my head, or any part of my body, in fact. I should be ordering some in the next couple of days. Either them, or the Audio Technica A700s, or maybe even the AD700s, i can't decide.

I'd really like to try some on, but I don't know of any shops that have these on display available to try :(
