Ok last Nintendo I owned was the original Nes. Wife has a Wii coming and I just bought myself the Star wars games i always fancied off auction.

I have a DS lite to play mario kart on and in all honesty the Mario games dont really bother me.

What Cube games should I look into?

BTW one of my fav all time games is Mike Tyson Punchout, did they have anything similar for the cube?

Any decent F1 games for this?

Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 4
Tales Of Symphonia

Edit: Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes

Metroid Prine is great - not played number 2 but I'm told it's just as good
Zelda:Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4
Pikmin 2 - I cannot stress just how brilliant this is!
F-Zero GX - Really tough but very rewarding at the same time
Mario Kart - Not the best version of Mario Kart but still great
Super Monkeyball 2 - Possibly the best multiplayer I've ever played.

I've not been that into Mario games myself but Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is very highly spoken of so I ordered it last night.

Nah there never was a punch out on the GC.. although super punch-out is coming to the Wii VC somtime next year i believe.

zelda: wind waker
zelda: twilight princess (if you wanna play it with a normal controller)
mario sunshine
resi 4
metroid 1+2
1080 avalanche
eternal darkness

plenty more but those are off the top of my head

I just read that you need a gamecube controller to play the old games like Ive got the starwars games. Is this true?

Damn this little console is getting an expensive buy :D

Ok I thought thats what the classic was for. Just been looking for a GC controller and they are well pricey, even on auction. WTF.

Can I use a wavebird thingy wireless or does it have to be a GC wired controller.

GC controllers locally are very cheap indeed (in all of the high street gaming shops) Most were around £9.99.
