Hi

Im looking to buy a few new cds of bands I have never really listened to but have no idea what to get. I like Indie and Britpop, for example my current favorite bands are:

Embrace
Kasabian
Oasis
Sigur Ros

Any bands you recommend I should give ago?

Thanks

embrace!?!! lol :p

new bands/artists im likin at the moment *** be

mumm-ra (on the verge of becoming massive)
albert hammond jr (strokes guitarist) fantastic solo effort
the view
get cape.wear cape. fly

all i can think of, off the top of my head

Saw Mumm ra at the embrace concert in hull :p
Where amazing, havnt got an album out yet tho :(

All check the other you listed there tho, any others?

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but you give a fairly broad spectrum:

Duke Special - Songs From The Deep Forest (difficult to define, quite similar style to Embrace in ways I suppose)
Micah P Hinson - And The Opera Circuit (indie, americana folksy stuff)
Gomez - How We Operate (indie pop, more blur-esqe than oasis though imo)
Fratellis - Costello Music (just on the off-chance you haven't got/considered this, just mentioning because I thought I would hate it, but it's a great fun album)
Laura Veirs - Year of Meteors (indie, liking her voice a lot atm)

Need to get my ear to the ground and see what new stuff is out there tbh, it's been too long (i'm suffering not being able to get to manc much :( )

Agreed, though tbh there isn't much of a common thread between any 2 of the bands in the OP

(apart from, as I take it you infer, Kasabian, Embrace and Oasis being pap :p )

Yep, crapness is an important connection :p (Plus it all qualifies as harmless bland indie rock)

Mumm-ra were absolutely ace at Reading...

The Wildhearts are like Oasis with the rubbish replaced with riffs... May be a bit heavier than you like though.

In the way that indie kids who've publicy masturbated over them for years have suddenly deserted them since they grew out of the Pitchfork bubble along with Sufjan Stevens, Devendra Banhart and Les Savy Fav?

Gotcha.

more electro style indie but

hot chip - finally got the album even though its been out ages, theyre great

the presets - where amazing live

The National - Alligator.

An album from last year but what an album. Haven't listened so intensively to a record for a long time, and still haven't got bored with it.

The National @ myspace

Previous LP 'Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers' is fantastic, dare I say even better than 'Alligator'.

Currently saving up to snap up their earlier album & EP.

Strolls of into the moonlight singing 'All the Wine'.

Anyone who does that is a tool and should be ignored.

OT, I certainly haven't seen Les Savy Fav, great band though they are, in the public eye recently. Am I missing something?

I haven't deserted them, and I don't like Les Savy Fav. You write for punktastic, who are you to say anything. Please.

Ah yes, because I write for a 'punk' webzine that means I have zero knowledge about any other genre of music. Forgot about that.

Sidestep the point to sideswipe at me if you will, but just because Sigur Ros are slightly more obscure than the other bands listed does not make it 'weird'.
