As title can anyone recommend video conferencing software that can be used for Lan's.

i.e. someone in site A can talk to someone in site B (over a VPN)

Does anyone know anything that would work?

Cheers

:)

Cisco Call Manager Express can do Video Conferencing using Cisco VT Advantage. Depends on how rugged you want the solution to be, is this for home use or business?

Also how many attendants would you want in a single conference?

Its for a small law firm so they can use the webcam between sites, it obviously needs to be secure.

It would most likely just be a one to one.

Thanks :)

Couple of products I've used and work well:

X-Lite from Counterpath, http://www.counterpath.com
It's free but you'll need to rely on your VPN for security. If you want encryption between the end points then you'll need the registered version, eyeBeam. Both products support multi-party conferencing.

Polycom PVX, http://www.polycom.co.uk
Has lots of features - shared desktop, able to send media content to remote end like presentations and videos. Will support point to point but multi-party setup will require additional hardware/software. It's a registered product but you can download it for a 30 day trial.

Skype here, we use it in our offices in belfast, chorley and dublin, its pretty reliable.

Skype has a lot of plugins to customise it as you wish. From shared drawing boards to pretty much anything.

For a start, I would use skype and offer another way to customers to contact the company free!

If your already planning on using a webcam, you could use Microsoft Live Communications server.

Basically an enterprise form of MSN, but lets you do video & voice conferencing.
