A customer has brought in a PC which is fubar'd. The motherboard has been damaged after they fiddled with it destroying a CPU in the 2nd CPU socket (pin's left in the socket and they powered it up!).
It's mainly server hardware and a replacement motherboard is going to be a couple of hundred pounds.
Now, there are 3 x 1Gb sticks of DDR in the system. They are PC2700 (DDR333) rated.
I am going to quote 3 prices to the customer:
1) Repair the existing system with a new motherboard.
2) A complete new setup based upon a new dual core CPU from AMD and another from Intel.
3) A new setup based around slightly dated hardware utilising the customers existing memory.
My question is, what is that best option I can spec. for around option 3.
Am I right in thinking the memory is too slow for any dual core setup?
Thanks,
Chris
