hi guys

to add to my new samsung 840 256 SSD i need some massive storage
what model would u recommend in terms of reliability ? can i go with samsung on this as well ?

the samsung f4 is good/reliable if you can get hold of one, they stopped making them now though

other is the seagate barracuda 2tb but not sure how reliable they are

The seagate's have been solid and fast for me but it's like with anything else, everyone will have good and bad experiences with the various brands.

Only thing that generally puts me off Seagate now is their rubbish warranty period of 12 months. I'd rather spend the extra if needed and support a manufacturer who provides a decent warranty period.

The Seagates are usually a little faster but have been known to fail more often.
The reason I use WD apart from the longer warranty is that any replacements are usually new rather than refurbs.

The WD Reds are designed for 24/7 NAS environments but work very well in desktop usage. I have 2 x 3TB Reds atm and I’ve been impressed with them so far.

My previous 2 x 2TB Green drives worked flawlessly for 2.5 years and are still being used as externals now.

well ive only uses samsung drives, lots of f1's/f3's and f4's,some nearly 3 years old and all have been great

i have used one or two early seagates which i found noisy but reliable

Dont think it matters to much what brand you go for just get two. Set up a mirrored raid and who cares if one goes pop if still under warranty replace.

I would have thought their 3TB is considering the 2TB is but it doesnt say that on the OcUK details page for it, but I can confim that 2TB above is.

I purchased a 2TB seagate (ST2000DM001) about 2 weeks ago and checked online via their website using the serial number and it confirmed 2 years.

hmm, I don't really need it right now, so I will have a browse and maybe buy it in mid Jan when I am putting my *new* system togheter
