guys, i am just about to buy myself a q6600 (g0 stepping one) with the aim to overclock it, cooling it with a Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro.

I've got a Asus P5VDC-MX (V2) which i am also looking to replace.

I would like a motherboard that is excellent for overclocking.

I only have a budget of £140(delivered) but don't have a graphics card, so the 140 would need to include either a basic (i'm not a pc gamer) graphics card compatible with the motherboard, or a motherboard with onboard vga.

I've been searching for the last few weeks on the forum, and been reading a lot about the Asus p5k's, the p5q's etc, but i am getting more and more undecided everytime i read something new.

Can anyone give me a good recommendation?

The asus boards are good. Both p35 and p45 are both very good for overclocking q6600 cpus.

Since your not a gamer, I doubt whether the p45 with it's pci-e 2 slots will be much of a gain over the p35 boards.

The abit and asus p35 are very good overclockers.

It all depends on the other features you need as to which model you get ie wirefire, wireless networking built in, twin gigabit ethernet, number of sata connectors, RAID etc.

Just pick the cheapest Asus or Abit with the features which then will leave you a good chunk of money for a graphics card.

Depending on how much you spend on your mobo an ATI 3850 or 8500GT for the £40-£60 mark will probably suit your needs as a non gamer but if you could say what you plan to use your computer for then I can be a little more specific.

i do some video editting and converting dvd's and thats about it really......

i will use wifi, but i already have a usb dongle for that.

i have 2xIDE hard drives, 1 IDE dvd writer, and a sata dvd writer, so no major requirements to be honest, apart from being able to overclock fairly well and easily.

any recommendations on the above?

cheers shadow, that looks ideal for what i'm after

now what graphics card should i get to complement it?????

nice one, i think thats my basket full then :)

anymore recommendations before the order goes through?

You have 3 IDE devices, that will need 2 IDE slots on the motherboard, most of them doesnt have that so make sure you check this. Unless you can get rid of one HDD, or to be honest I would get rid of both of them and replace them with new sata, they're very cheap.

I would ditch both IDE drives and get something like the Samsung F1 1TB. It's an amazing drive and you can't beat the £/GB ratio.

yeah i just noticed that the mobo only has 1 ide connection, not good since i put the order in last night :(

means i'll need to just use my sata dvd drive and my OS ide hard drive in the meantime until i get both a new power supply (current one is an ezcool 550w) as it only has 1 sata power cable. and then i'll need to change the hard drives ........what a nightmare.

lol i didn't budget replacing my drives, so i'm going to just buy a couple of ide to sata power cables, and a sata to ide adapter and plod along until i can buy new drives
