Recommendations for a new compact camera

Im still in the market for a compact, and i'd pretty much settled on the 800is as well. A colleague at work who is much more into serious photography than i will ever be suggested i had a look at the R4. It seemed to be not bad from the reviews i have read, but it looks like the 800is is still the prefered option for most :) I think the lense is the biggest selling point for the R4.

How about the Casio Exilim series.
Tiny, big and bright screens, very sharp lenses, great looks, even better results.

I would start with the EX-S600 and if its not enough, just go to a higher model.

Hi,

I was pretty much on the same budget looking for the same sorta camera myself a few weeks back. Decided to go for the Canon Ixus 55, which has definatley lived upto my expectation of it, with some amazing image quality.
Just to add to it comes with a very large colorful LCD on the back. Picked it up for £170 inclusive of delivery, so worked out a nice little buy.

Good choice!

I would have recommended the Casio Exilim EX-Z850. 8.1 Mega Pixel with a big screen and 3 x optical zoom.

photo from it:

clicky clicky

Hope you enjoy your new cam though

Well it turned up this morning and it seems to be a fantastic little camera, not had much chance to play with it but hopefully try to get to grips with it over the weekend.
