Hi all!

To cut a long story short, Laptop dropped off Sofa onto floor. The laptop refuses to recognise HDD is present and makes a continuous clunking noise.... I have take the drive out which is a SATA drive and fitted it to my PC's drive caddy and have the same noise from the drive. I have thought about taking the drive apart and 'freeing up the drive' if I can..... I have convinced myself that this would be a bad idea, as there is some sentimental data on the drive and if I lose it I am a dead man!!!!

Basically can anyone recommend a company who can possibly retrieve this data from the drive for me?

Don't open the drive. That will kill it just from dust contamination.

Seagate have their own drive retrieval company, but there are quite a few of them around if you google. I don't have any personal experience to recommend one in particular though.

Thanks four your quick responses chaps. In answer to your posts, some data is backed up but some data has been added since my last backup last month. I have googled data retrieval companies, just wondered if anyone has any personal experiences and recommendations.
