A couple of months ago I upgraded to an i7 system, but my HDD's have been left in the past. When I bought them originally they were cheap and slow so now even more so. I've got a maximum of £300 to spend on HDDs so was looking for some recommendations on what to do.

My current setup is:
1TB WD10EADS-00L5B1 - OS and Software
250GB WD2500KS-00MJB0 - Films
250GB WD2500KS-00MJB0 - Other Media

Ideally I REALLY need to upgrade the lot, but I can't afford to do so. What's my best options. Is it best to have the OS on a seperate HDD?

£300 will get you a fair amount of storage. For example you could get a couple of 1.5Tb drives (one live, one backup) and still have enough left over for an SSD boot drive.

£300 really is the most I have to spend on harddrives, but obviously ideally I don't want to spend that much :p I just wonder if anything that I have is worth keeping. I'd love to get an SSD for OS and programs, but can't afford a large capacity, so just wondered what's the best way to approach it.

The 1Tb isn't going to be spectacular as a boot drive but there's nothing wrong with using it for storage. The two 250Gb drives are again OK for storage but nothing special.

If you're looking to keep the budget down then a 1Tb Samsung F3 would give you a decent boot drive and a fair whack of space for ~£50. It'll be quicker than the WD Green you have but it's still a mechanical HDD. The 64Gb Crucial C300 SSD is only £115, quick but not huge.

I suppose it depends whether you value space, speed or low cost.

The amound of space I have at the moment is fine really, just need some more speed :p Would love an SSD for OS, just a pain to install software to a seperate HDD
