Hi Guys, need some recommendations for a inkjet printer please for my friend...

Currently have a lexmark 3400...which cost about £20...and (I love the comedy in this) the cartridges cost about £20.
it runs out of ink after about 100 pages....and is slow, annoying and noisy.
i am not looking for very high vol....but don't want to be fighting the thing to print stuff either.

What printer(s) would you recommend?
Thanks in advance guys :)

Interested to know this too, might be in the market for one myself.

What sort of stuff is you mate looking to print? Documents, photos etc..?

home printing, has two kids so pics, photos, homework and some printing for his work as well i think (invoices etc).

Oh yes under £200 as well.

i was thinking maybe this HP Officejet Pro 8000, can be had for approx £120. Seems like a good workhorse inkjet for home printing.

HP and Canon always seem to do well in reviews.

I prefer Canon in general for their photo printing abilities, and the MG5250 I currently have has been superb, and a real workhorse for the family.. even prints on CD/DVDs directly.. Even the kids can scan things in and send it to the computer, or plug in a USB stick, and it's used as a photocopier for homework etc..

Best thing is after a couple of months, third party cartridges appeared, and sticking to Inkrite/More inks has saved me a ton (on my 8th set of cartridges), with zero issues, all for under £10 for a complete set of 5..

for documents lasers are much cheaper overall, they're also a lot more reliable than inkjets and the toner lasts for thousands of prints so you don't need to change cartridges every 5 minutes.

he has decided to go with the MG5250,thanks Demon.

Where are you buying your inks from, the cheapest online price i could find after a quick search was £23.08 for a set of 5 cartridges?

I use compatibles from MoreInks or Inkwrite, you get a lot of choice from the jungle river place.. £8.98 for all 5.

Some compatibles are really poor quality ink, I use Inkrite and Moreinks after recommendations from people who also points out that since both brands also so their own range of photo paper, they have some motivation to ensure their inks colours are accurate, which has been my experience!

Thanks Demon, so the moreink and inkrite ones are not £10~ for 5 cartridges are they??
I found the ones that are £9~ on the jungle river place... but it does not mention what brand they are.

Moreinks are a seller on the jungle river place (Can't bring myself to say it, just in case!)

Just search for "moreinks mg5250"

The first result is 2 x 5 packs for £13.89 (fulfilled by the jungle river), look further down for a 5 pack for £7.98..

The image shows the box with 'moreinks' written on it.. ;)
