You sure it wasn't a giant Dragonfly? I found this fly earlier and this shot was pretty much as close as I could get and it doesn't offer a huge amount of magnification compared to yours

You can crop the original massively though. That gives the impression of being a lot closer. Looking at flickr you have a 2048px wide image. If you cropped 50% off that you'd have a really large nice clean hover fly image.
