Recommendations please

Yeah exactly Mulpsmebeauty, thing is the general consensus is that I 'might' be ok with the PSU I currently have. I don't want to purchase a new 'boiler' if the one I have will do the job for now. Do you know if the 970's come with the adapter cables?

You don't use splitters - you get a decent PSU.

This tbh, never skimp on the psu. It's the single most important component in your system. The peace of mind of having a known good quality unit far outweighs the savings made by scrap in by on an older possible dodgy psu. I ran the spec in sig on a quality seasonic built corsair hx 850w unit. But at over 6 years old and having had a hard life I was wary of overclocking both the cpu and gpu's. Ended up replacing it with a superflower 1000w platinum unit.

Good to hear :)

Ok, if it wasn't sufficient - what's the worst that could happen? I'm genuinely asking by the way, not trying to be clever :P I'm guessing the pc would lock-up/power off randomly.. could it actually cause any physical damage though?

Fry your motherboard, memory or any other voltage sensitive components!

Alright cheers guys, guess I'll have to throw a bit more cash at it. Can anyone recommend a good PSU? Ideally one that will last and I could use in my next build, so last a good 4-5 years. Stulid linked a 550w one but I'd like to go 650w+ to future-proof it a little.

I've bought the EVGA Supernova GS 650W and my MSI Gaming 970 I ordered should arrive tomorrow in time for me to finally build my PC. I was originally going to choose a different PSU, but the EVGA was recommended to me on here. Superflower and Seasonic are more good PSU brands. The 750W Superflower is currently on a sale cheaper than the 650W Superflower, so I'd jump on that if I were you.

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA Supernova GS 650W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £76.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 750W "80 Plus Gold" Semi-Modular Power Supply - Black £74.99

You what mate? Those 2 units have NOTHING in common, the "650 Superflower" linked above is Leadex and among the best in the market, meanwhile you are recommending utter junk in the form of HX-series Capxon-filled rubbish.

Seriously, can you refrain from commenting if you think these 2 are even in the same ballpark quality wise:
