Recommended CPU Cooler query

Have you thought about a sealed water cooler? Would give plenty of room and no where near as risky as custom water cooling.

Do you already have the RAM?

You could buy more sensible RAM with lower profile heat sinks.

Also 2000MHz RAM is pretty much wasted with Sandy Bridge.

Unfortunately the RAM has already been shipped (c'est la vie). I was intending to OC the RAM to run at 1866MHz.

I should also mention that the motherboard is going to be mounted on a open test bench rig, so the height of the CPU cooler is not an issue, just its footprint.

Thermalright Silver Arrow with the fan placed at the back rather than the front.

I've now got one on order. I've decided to RMA under DSR the original RAM I selected and go for Grey Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Modules instead. I might even consider a third fan if a fan can be mounted on the front without displacing any of the now smaller RAM modules.

why didn't you just reject the delivery? you do know that you wouldn't get refund on the return shipping cost?

The Silver Arrow should be fine because it's the same size as the Noctua D14 which I managed to use with tall Corsair Vengeance.

don't think the sa has the fan lifting 'trick' from what I've read.

I needed to get a RMA number and include it with the packet. Without it the returned RAM would be rejected by them and I wouldn't get a refund.

?????????
load of bs, you can reject the delivery and they HAVE to take it back without a rma number. did you call up and ask before the delivery arrived? if yes and the cs person told you that you had to get a rma and couldn't reject the delivery just cost you extra money(ram isn't heavy so only a couple of quid to send back but still).
