Ok im looking for some external storage and like the idea of using a caddy to house a HD of my choice... is it worth doing or should i just by a pre-done external hdd?

If so ideally im after a 3.5" Sata2 with usb2 connections. Those icy boxes look nice, are they any good?

I've got an Icy Box, very pleased with it. Mines the standard IDE version but for just stirage doesn't really matter too much. Got my 160 gig samsung in it and you don't even know it's running. The flashing all round blue LED is cool too :)

Works out cheaper in the end to buy an oem hdd and enclosuer seperatley.

i use an icybox too. top quality case for my 3.5 inch drive.

for my 2.5 inch lappy drive i use a vantec nexstar3 enclosure, you can also get the vantec nexstar3 enclosure for the 3.5 inch drives and a probably the fastest units you can get on usb according to review sites. the vantec units use better usb controllers etc.

I have both the SATA and PATA IcyBox - using a a WD 250Gb in the former and 320Gb WD in the latter.

They have been fine (so far).

I have cloned my 74Gb Raptor to the 250Gb SATA II drive - there is a SATA connection on the outside of the IcyBox as well as USB2 - and I am using it as I type.
