Recommended fan direction in a Lian Li V1000

Hi,

Just refitted my rig with an E8500 clocked to 4.2Ghz, and I'm a bit disappointed with temps at idle. Aafter a while, they creep up to around 50C, and this is with vcore only at 1.250.

Just wondering if I could improve temps through changing fan directions.

I have never changed the fan directions on the case, and I understand the default is:

front - intake
back - intake
side - exhaust

I have a TT with an Sythe S-Flex, and I have tried both directions, but there doesn't seem to be a difference which way round I put it. Frankly it seems counterproductive setting the fan to push the hot air straight at the rear case fan which is intaking cooler air, so I have the fan pushing the hot air back into the case.

Any ideas?

The joy of lian li airflow.

In my a17 i actually set the rear exaust fan as an intake. Then I just got annoyed and put a small cpu water loop in.

What was the CPU temp with your old CPU? Perhaps the heatsink is not fitted correctly? I personally blame my 8800GT for heating up my case in the summer months (although my idle temp would reach 38c).

That's possible, though I have tightened the TT as much as I dare. My old CPU was a E2160 clocked to 3Ghz, and it idled at about 43C IIRC. The E8xxxs do run hot when clocked, so this may just be a fact of life. Not yet got round to doing pencil mods, lapping and the like - may have to. Have ruled out water cooling. No time to do a proper job, and I understand there is not much improvement on the TT from the kits.

Note, I've dialled it down to 4Ghz, at 1.75 vcore and it's much cooler (40-41C now - I'll see if it creeps up over the next couple of hours). That proves to me it's the chip and not the TT...

Forgot to add, this is fans at minimum.
