I thought it would be a good idea to have a recommended HDR games thread! I'm going to add to this post as I test more...

Tier A - Awesome
Tier B - Very Good
Tier C - Good
Tier D - OK
Tier E - Bad

My suggestions -

Tier A

Destiny 2 - Switches HDR mode on and off by itself. Destiny 2 is the game seen on the screen of the AW3423DWF adverts.
Borderlands 3 - Requires HDR mode to be on when you run the game (perhaps using AutoAction). Has really colourful and bright weapon effects which really stand out in HDR.

Here are games I played and what tier I would place them in if the top of my head:

Tier A

Horizon Zero Dawn
God of War
Spider-Man (not played this on the PC yet but it had amazing HDR on PS4 Pro so pretty it would be on PC too).

B Tier

Resident Evil Village
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Cyberpunk 2077
Shadow of a Tomb Raider
Flight Simulator 2020
Mortal Kombat 11
Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy

C Tier

Resident Evil 3 Remake
Doom Eternal
Forza 4
Halo Infinite

D Tier

Age of Empires 4
Red Dead Redemption 2
Resident Evil 2 Remake

Not easy to put them in tiers as I am just going on the impression these games left on me. Some could be one tier up or down. But the one in the top tier definitely deserve to be there. They just stood out a lot. Ones in tier b are very good, just did not grab me in the same way.

Will update this post as I probably forgot some.

I would suggest you use a table like Armageus did in the GPU Hierarchy thread and list them like that. Would be fun to debate which games deserve which spot.

Doom Eternal, I found that a little strange. I seem to remember you have to enable HDR in Windows to set it up, but then you need to disable it again or it is really washed out in-game. Also, as you say, not all that impressive.
It's interesting that you say Guardians of the Galaxy is HDR, I didn't even notice. I will have to take another look at that.

I will double check Doom Eternal as I have it installed. Pretty sure with Guardians of the Galaxy it made the game look much better, unless I am being confused as it was quite a few months ago.

@Nexus18 get in here! You could definitely add a lot to this thread.

Oh and here is the thread I am referring to:

I think using a table like that would make the OP look much cleaner and easier to follow.

Tier A

*Deep Rock Galactic (quite a dark game, so HDR really makes the highlights pop)
*Ori and the Will of the Wisps - game already looks amazing, but HDR takes it to another level

=======

Honourable mention to Stray, looks amazing with HDR, but no native support (needs SpecialK to enable it)

Yeah RE Village could be A, I felt it was B for me based purely on the games in a doing it a bit better and standing out. My Tier A is kind of like a Tier S in a way, they are a A, but just stands out that little more. You know, they go to 11 :p

Also Mass Effect Andromeda? I remember hearing HDR was broke in that game many years ago, did they fix it or are you being to kind with your ranking? Surely unless they fixed it, it won’t be on the same level as a God of War. I literally just completed God of War and the difference it makes to the game is huge!

Shame I played Days Gone on my 4K monitor before I had purchased my Alienware. I can imagine that being an A :)

@Nexus18 thoughts on Guardians of Galaxy? I only played about half the game on Game Pass and got bored, you enjoyed it as I recall. What HDR rating would you give that?

Thing with re village is it is just so natural looking and spot on, some games, even the other tier a ones can feel a bit too exaggerated with the brightness.

But yeah defo need to define what the tiers stand for in this, for me makes sense for tier a to be the 100% correct/accurate hdr without faffing with 3rd party tools and last tier being just poor hdr e.g. sdr brightness increase being the only thing to make it "hdr"

MEA definitely has fully working hdr, not played it on the AW but worked wonderfully on the lg e7 when I played it last year, in fact, it also offers dolby vision too. I might reinstall here as want to see how it looks on the AW now :p

Definitely a good showcase that one, probably tier a for me, there are some parts where it won't stand out (as the game/maps are all generally quite bright/cartoonish) but later on in the game, some really good scenes to showcase it.

Oh and lego star wars - tier a
f1 22 - tier c

I’ll be honest, I would not know what 100% accurate is in regards to HDR. All I know is how much of a visual impact it has :p

You may have two games that are 100% accurate, no faffing about with 3rd party tools etc, but one might still be better enough to warrant being in a higher tier. That’s why for example you consider many games in my Tier B to be Tier A.

If we only have three tiers for me all my Tier B would go into A and C would become B etc. But I feel then there won’t as much differentiation. Though it certainly would make life easier.

Tier A - Awesome
Tier B - Very Good
Tier C - Good
Tier D - OK
Tier E - Bad

That would be how I would do it. But can keep it simple and go:

Tier A - Very Good
Tier B - Good
Tier C - OK/Bad

:D

Lets go five! I'll steal that and put it at the top of the thread.

TBH I would keep it to 3 tiers as there are a lot of games with very bad support i.e. not hdr at all :p

Up to the OP, he is the one going to maintain the thread

But going 3 tier does have it‘s merits due to many here disagreeing what tier certain games should be in. Would help make life easier from that point of view. I am happy with either.

That said, I am not sure what the OP is going for. Will there be a single OP that has the results based on what the majority are saying or just a thread everyone posts their opinion and people need to go through dozens of pages (that might generous actually as not many people even have proper HDR monitors) seeing what each and every person’s opinion is?
