Hi.
First things first, the first person who suggests ADSL Guide or similar will get a slap with a moldy fish. :p

Im looking for personal experiances and opinions on some ISPs from you lot please. :p
Im on Tiscali 512 at the moment, and im waiting for my MAC code to come through email (they said it'll take 24hours!).

I was gonna change to a Nildram package thats £25/month for 8Mb unlimited, 100Mb webspace & the usual stuff.
But ive been hearing some bad things about Nildram lately. Any opinions?

Thanks in advance all. :)

note:
An ISP that supports php on their webspace would be a nice bonus. :)

Before Pipex bought out Nildram, I was with Nildram and they were one of the top 5 maybe top 3 ISP's in the UK ... but then I went to University, now the other month I went back to Nildram (bearing in mind in the meantime Pipex bought them out) and I have to say I was shocked at how bad the service had gotten.

As a result I got the MAC from Nildram and migrated to IDNet who I hear from a lot of research are a very very good ISP

Happy People

I have been with IDNet since the 28/07/06 after only taking 3 days to migrate! There support is outstanding I can’t put it into words is that good I mean what company picks the phone up with in 3 rings and doesn’t charge a premium rate. The service is amazing a hell of a lot better than PlusNet. There cleaned down scheme works well. The pings are greater (knocking 20ms off my PlusNet connection). It’s well priced as well. The service doesn’t drop depending on the time of day unlike other ISP’s. IDNet comes out tops on ADSL Guide. A****

I’ve had the worst luck with isps since I moved from BT last year to plusnet, pipex and now I’m currently with nildram but they have become awfully slack with their support and the lateny whilst gaming is very jumpy. I requested my MAC this morning and got it with in 5 minutes so now I’m going back to BT again on the Option 3 package with 40GB a month but a friend of mine is on that and does over 100gb transfer a month has never received any contact from them what so ever about his bandwith usage.

Looking at IDNet, they're not going to be a choice on my list. They have a 30Gb cap and a installation fee.

What exactely are the problems with Nildram exactely?
Because upto now, they appear to be the best, and only have 'rumored problems' rarther than hard facts backing it up (according to ADSL guide).

Pipex look good as well, but after my mate had a month or so of downtime, im not so sure about them.

rumoured!!!! on the message board on Adslguide They have had problems with their peering over Telia for ages now, people playing WoW have been having extreme problesm with pings and even connecting over Telia ... I myself have had problems with pings, ver 150ms to game servers.

It pains me to say this :( I loved Nildram, now I think their service has deteriorated to the levels of being an extremely average ISP :(
Nildram were brilliant before Pipex snapped them up .. I know I was woth them for a long time before they did .... now adays they have seriously deteriorated, and most 1 month contracts will charge you for activation, for home users, shouldn't really be much need for more than 30/50Gb personally I just download what I need, updates, patches and the like.

ill be signing up to UKFSN in the next couple weeks.

£19.99 gives you 30gb "peak time" and 300gb "off peak" (10pm-8am) and that is without any traffic shaping whatsoever. Also very good pings i've heard.

£29.99 gives you 60gb "peak time" allowance.

From personal experience, try Zen

I have been with both Nildram and Zen....and in my opinion, Zen are better. :)
I was looking at Zen earlyier, as i remember some good things being said about them a while back.
But they are v.expensive for what they offer.

UKFSN dont exactely look like the most professional company with the website that they are using. They give the impression that they are about to close down from the amateur appearance of their website.

Whats the general concencus on Pipex?

Thanks for the input bty guys/gals. :)

You don't have to deal with UKFSN - everything happens through Enta (who UKFSN are reselling).

Pretty crappy. Aggressive traffic shaping, naff support etc.

If you're looking for "personal opinions", ADSLguide is your friend. :p
You'll find far more opinions than here anyway.

UKFSN just dont strike me as a company thats gonna be around for a while though?
Im not keen on signing up for a company that goes under a few months later.
+ according to their website, i'd have a static IP. I'd prefer a dynamic one tbh.

Ive been reading around and it seems that the problem with Pipex is they try to limit file sharing.
And that the problem with Nildram is just pings. Is that true?
