Recommended ISPs.

Im swaying towards the Eclipse 4 to be honest.
50Gb limit on peak.
And traffic shaping is only on NNTP, which i dont use anyway.

Whats the concencus on them?
Its hard to find any concrete opinions on them on ADSL Guide tbh, most of its idle chatter with no confirmed information.

Eclipse are apparently starting to use Tiscali (Wholesale) LLU...

Personally I wouldn't touch them, their customer service has also got poor recently.

Well they appear to be the best for what i want, and are getting some good reviews around the web.
Its only a 30 day contract anyway, so if after a month i dont like them, i'll migrate. :p

Good luck migrating if you get placed on Tiscali LLU...
Im already with Tiscali! + Theres only BT & Bulldog LLUs at my local exchange...;)
Becides, i get the impression that the only difference between being on a LLU and not being on an LLU, migration wise, is that it takes longer to get a MAC code. Or is there some other reason?

But not their wholesale LLU.

LLU - LLU migration more or less doesn't exist, and LLU - IPStream migration can be extremely variable, with issues including the winning ISP not accepting the MAC and the losing ISP not giving them out.

AFAIK, only NNTP throttling has been reported?

Other throttling's been reported too. At last count they're still tweaking it though.

Tiscali dont have an LLU at my exchange so i should be alright shouldnt i?
And its a planned future upgrade for Eclipse, so if i got them within the next few weeks, then they're not gonna chuck me over to a LLU then they start using Tiscali's are they?

Are Eclipse generally ok though?
After a lot of looking around, they seem to be the best for what i need/have the least amount of problems.

I've just finished my contract with Demon for the last 12 months and the service was very good, consistently fast and a bargain price for £19.99 2mb uncapped.

And it is actually uncapped, none of this traffic shaping crap. :)

I'd go for a 2Mb true uncapped service, but:
The problem is that there doesnt appear to be a truely uncappped ADSL MAX service at 2Mb, and i cant get above 512 unless its on MAX.

##EDIT##
On another note, Eclipse is getting some good feedback from a thread on another website.

Theres uproar on the Tiscali forums, their 8mb MAX is really a 256k connection, as everyone can only download at 30k hehe, jesus even a 512k connection beats it, 8mb big deal, your pages load fast enough on 512k, and you can get double the download rate PMSL :D

If you're getting that from Samknows, you should be aware that their data's old.

What?
If you move to Eclipse, if/when the exchange gets LLUed, Eclipse will most likely move you over to it.

Watch the distinction between Tiscali the ISP and Tiscali the wholesale LLUer. :)

So i cant move from an LLU to a 'normal' ISP in the future?

How am i likely to be connected to Tiscali atm? Ive been with them on their 512 ADSL for years now.

Hmm. Odd.
According to Tiscali's website, they've now 'fixed' my account, and are giving me the option of 1Mb unlimited for £14. But not ADSL Max of any varient?
Their FAQ mentions a Tiscali ADSL Max availability checker, but i cant see one at all?

If the ADSL Max services are as bad as ive heard, i'd be tempted to just go for that tbh, if it really is 1Mb unlimited. From what ive heard, ive got more chance of finding a 'unlimited' 1-2Mb package than an 8Mb one.

The short story: no.
The long: In theory, you can. In reality, it's a horrible mess. Some LLUers will give MACs (AFAIK Tiscali won't, or Plusnet would surely be using migration rather than cease and reprovide to get customers back onto IPStream), some ISPs won't accept LLU MACs.

DataStream probably. The MAC key you (eventually) get from them should make it obvious what you've got.

Im still waiting for them to give me my MAC. 5 days they said!

Would i be better off going for a 1Mb Unlimited line rarther than an ADSL Max one? I get the impression that the line will be more stable and more likely to have laxer usage policys on it? (due to the reduced speed).
Question though, if i set my Tiscali account to upgrade to the 1Mb, does it reset my 12 month contract at all? So i'd be stuck with them at 1Mb for 12 months, or because ive been with them for years, will it not matter?
