So we've just embarked on a full renovation of our 1980's house. Strip out is now complete and we've started to look at kitchens.

Has anyone got any good/bad experiences of the below suppliers? We had a good design session with Wren over the weekend, but it's impossible to know how good the units are without long term feedback.
  • Wren
  • Magnet
  • Howdens (our last house had a Howdens Kitchen)
Also, my wife is keen to get an instant hot water tap. Wren quoted £2.5k for a Quooker tap with the added chilled water accessories. Has anyone used any of the alternatives brands out there as Qettle?

We've just had a £300 hot water tap installed, it required a bit of extra plumbing and a normal plug socket so cost us a bit for those bits to be added but overall it is working and doing exactly what we wanted. Total cost was probably about £400-£500 and the main reason for getting it was to avoid needing a kettle out on the side. No idea on longevity though.

Have you considered DIY kitchens? They're almost definitely going to be who I get my next kitchen from.

Making the trip over to the DIY Kitchens showroom is good to see all the cabinets and cupboards. Had one fitted over 6 years ago and it's as solid as it was when first fitted. Drawers and soft close on the cupboards still smooth. My flat came with a budget Moores kitchen and the DIY Kitchen is so much better.

Not tried the Ikea units but as a showroom it's fun to go around for inspiration.

+1 DIY Kitchens, but would also say it's absolutely essential to find a decent, experienced chippy to fit it.

The chap who did our flooring normally does bespoke work: TV Wall media units, under-stair storage, fully fitted, custom built wardrobes (he uses IKEA PAX sliding doors as he can't beat their value), complete kitchens, garden rooms, you name it.

When we wanted to modify and extend the minimal kitchen the council provided us, he was absolutely brilliant, and saved us a hell of a lot as he could build from scratch better & cheaper, rather than buying premade/kit stuff.

We'll use him again next year when we do the big renovation: bi-folds with flush access to patio, integrated media unit & new switchback staircase (aiming to install a shaftless wheelchair lift between the stringers).

We didn't use any of those suppliers for our kitchen but we did source the worktops from Prestige Granite in Knowsley (thought I'd mention it with the OP being from Liverpool). Worth a visit if you need to source worktops individually.

Also, if you need appliances, sinks etc, worth a visit to Built-in Kitchen Appliances in Anfield - massive showroom. We got our Franke sinks and taps from them.

Yep - Lee can work with you to create whatever you need. Get in touch with him via Insta, or DM me for his number. Really straightforward, humble guy :)

Diyk. Make sure you get a discount from installer tho - they come pre assembled. Fly up in no time at all.

Many Magnet units are actually from DIYK, we had an appointment with them and they started pulling out photos of units with DIYK branding all over them.

We are placing the order with DIYK. If you’re going with Quartz or DEKTON you will get others to fit it not your kitchen fitter, DIYK aren’t the cheapest so use your local supplier.
