Recommended memory cards?

General consensus is if you buy from Amazon, make sure the order is fulfilled by Amazon and not a random seller from the marketplace. If you're buying from Ebay then good luck :D

Not just fulfilled but sold entirely by Amazon! "Fulfilled by" just means that it's a third-party company but Amazon are holding stock for them and using their network to deliver it. You can easily get a fake via such sellers.

I thought it just meant that Amazon sourced the stock but since I've never really looked into it, you're probably right lol.

I bought a Canon LP6 battery from Amazon themselves a couple of years back; when I got my 5D mkiii and inserted that battery, it showed up as non-genuine. Upon closer inspection, the blue label on the back had a very subtly different shade to all my others.

I contacted Amazon and they refunded me immediately and didn't even want it returned because its a battery product and should be disposed of.

Sandisk and Kingston.

Always used to use only Sandisk, then I thought I'd try Kingston as they offered similar/same performance for quite a bit cheaper. So far so good! I always carry a bucket load of spares to a job anyway and shoot to 2 cards simultaneously to give me contingency.

Thanks guys, I've bought a 64GB Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s, sold by Amazon. Can't believe how much the prices have come down over the years. Although now my 16GB card seems to be working again so I think I'll use the second card slot to store JPEGs so they can be easily viewed on someone elses computer if needed.

Can not go wrong with Scandisk !

It'll do the job just fine for a filesystem check on older Windows PC's (if you still have one about that old!).

However, if you want memory cards, as the OP asked, Sandisk products are much better suited to the task.

;)

+1 for using Sandisk Ultra - they are reasonably priced now and perform very well.

I agree, amazing how cheap you can pick up a 64GB SD card now a days. And then you also look at the size of a micro SD card and think 64GB?!?

I used to work for a company that wrote an SD software stack and it was generally considered one of the best around. The developers were always keen to point out that SanDisk were the only company that properly implemented the SD specifications. Everyone else did a poor job - either to save money or due to incompetence. Transcend were particularly bad.

I've stuck with SanDisk cards ever since. :)

Not only that but buying a replacement isn't cheap either! $729 for one

Wow,...how much is that bad boy ! ?:D

Price mentioned was $729 but judging by the usual conversion rate of US to UK prices, that'll be around £729 >.>

Realistically I guess maybe around £500-550? I doubt many DSLR shooters will get one though for fear of losing that many shots. I think these huge cards are for 4k video shooters

thats exactly it
if i got anything like that id just get lazy and let it fill up!

looks like 1£ per GB ish. tbh, thats not too bad!

I just had to send two 32GB SanDisk Extreme cards back to Amazon as they were obviously fake. Was receiving 1.5MB/s write speeds. That's slower than my 64GB SanDisk Ultra which is the slower version which was getting 25MB/s write speeds. I double checked that the order was direct from Amazon and not fulfilled by them/from a 3rd party. When I spoke to them they said that I wasn't the only one to have complained. Weird that Amazon are getting their memory cards from non-legit sources....

Makes me think how Amazon get hold of this kind of stock. I know they have very competitive price and are generally much cheaper in this kind of product but no way should they be getting fake goods in the first place!

I use Amazon heavily - makes me feel angry when this happens because I put so much business their way and they do things like this.
