Hi guys,

I'm after a decent PHP coded, web based inventory/asset system for work. It needs to have a small app that runs on the individual PC that will send updated data every so often to the server running the server-side software. It doesn't need to have ticketing etc built in, and is really just to allow us to keep track of serial numbers/software being installed/IP addresses/domains etc.

We have about 350 sites on ADSL VPN connections into our central local network which our server sits on, so ideally any uploading of data from the client PC's would be done over port 80 so we don't have to mess with opening ports on routers owned by BT.

Basically i have no idea where to start looking so i'm after some recommendations, so far i've seen these two:

They do the sort of thing im after, but i've never used anything like this before so was hoping for some opinions or advice on what to go for...

Thanks

Nobody? Dang.

Of the two i found ZCI is too simple and OCSI is hugely over the top!

Has anyone got any suggestions at all of things i can look into? I'm not getting paid for this or anything by the way, i'm just doing it in my spare time as i'm sick of not having a decent asset/inventory database!

I think the area (and solution you require) is fairly specialised, you may be better off having something bespoke developed to your exact needs - it'll cost money, but at least you'll be getting exactly what you need rather than trying to hack something together out of open source components that may or may not work (and will be impossible to get support on if you move company).

Email in trust if you'd like, the company I work with specialises in bespoke app development :D
