Hey there, Im building a system atm, P5Q-E mobo, Q9550 cpu, 2x500gb Seagates, 4 gb ram, Antec 900 case and a 4870x2 gfx card, and was wondering what size of PSU I'd need to run this easily. I do plan in the future to add a 2nd 4870x2 when 1 doesnt cut it anymore (may take a while, hard to tell) Would I be best using a PSU powerful enough to run the system with 1 in it, and upgrade it when I add a 2nd, or just buy one powerful enough now to run 2 of them? What kinda power would be needed to run both 1, and run 2 of these cards? Thx for any replies

Buy one to run two of them, much cheaper in the long run

I would suggest this PSU

So basically with your build your looking at a minimum of 850w PSU but to be on the safe side and "future proof" it a little you would be better off going for 1000w.

If you honestly think you will add another 4870X2 for quadfire then an 800W/850W would be suitable. Something like a Thermaltake Toughpower or a Zalman ZM850.

If you're just sticking with the one 4870X2 (which I think would be enough for you anyway ;)) then just get a 620W Corsair HX.

By the time you realistically need another x2, there will be a world of choices (often better value/money) so just go with the one and get a HX620 or PPC or one of the other brilliant PSU's out there.

Thx for the replies guys, after a lil thought Ive kinda thought about this..

This would run 2 4870x2's ok? or would I be better upgrading to the 1000w model to be safe? And is this PSU considered good? :)

PP&C, Enermax, Corsair & Seasonic are better than Tagan. People have been reporting failures recently of the Piperocks. The 750W PP&C I've listed states it is enough for Quad Crossfire. You really won't need 900W or 1000W. However, if you do go for the big one thousand, choose the already listed Corsair model.

Another +1. Running one here and it's solid as a solid thing. Could be quieter but then i'm of the impression the Corsair isn't any better. After seeing some photos of them both pulled apart it looks better designed and constructed than the Corsair.. Very glad i went for this one.
