Recommended software for identifying duplicate files?

Hi guys

I've backed virtually every photo I've ever taken onto a 2TB drive and thanks to my lack of organisation I've probably duplicated them several times over (I've just deleted 125GB of dupes!).

Is there any software that you would recommend (preferably free) that would allow me to identify duplicates and either put them into their own folder or delete them?

As they are personal photos mainly I certainly wouldn't want to be deleting anything by mistake!

Thanks very much. :)

I use a program called Folder Size, that has got some de-duping options.

I can't vouch for it as i've never used that part of it, but it should be fairly simple to test it before you let it loose on your whole drive?

ThumbsPlus is fantastic for it, but it is a little pricey because it really is a feature-packed application.

The trial version should give you enough time (30 days I think) to use it for a clean-up right now.

You can set the sensitivity for similar image find so that you can compare between an exact duplicate, or one that has been resized, or perhaps the same scene but from a slightly different angle. Pretty powerful.

If the trial doesn't work for some reason, here's a free one that worked pretty well: http://www.duplicate-finder.com/photo.html . It isn't quite as sexy or powerful, but it worked in a pinch.

I use DupDetector, its free. It also allows you to do a "fuzzy" compare, to compare images that are nearly the same.
