Im still on XP at the moment, with a partition of 30GB just for Windows and other Applications... is that enough for Windows Vista in general, i just want to re-use this existing partition if possible....

ok just read the requirements form MS web site, and it states 40GB recommended and 10-15gb extra for other things, hmm guess it might not be enough then...

Well, obviously it depends on what other applications you are running on the partition...but yes, because I'm running Ultimate happily on a 20Gb partition.

Robbie G, how much space did you have left after the initial installation of ultimate on your 20GB partition? if you can recall...

I plan to install Design applications such as Adobe on it... that must take up at least 5GB and then Office which is probably about the same or slightly less.... but i guess i could install those on another partition...

I put my Vista on a 30gb partition. I also put 2 games on there aswell and its still got some room to spare :)

i've just discovered something, my WD SATA-II HDD 250GB has Vista installed on it, i only just installed it today, and the hard drive is constantly seeking, it's like it is constantly trying to find something, it's so loud, quite unbearable... any ideas why? it's the loudest thing in my case at the moment...

with XP it wasn't this bad....not sure if my HDD is getting worn out or not...

That will be vista indexing your files more than likey as its a fresh install, don't worry it will calm down soon enough and it shouldn't affect performance at all whilst it index's :)

I hope so, the thing is i've restarted the PC over five times tho from updates, etc... still doing the same? how long does it usually take? obviously it's noisier when updating, but it sounds really unhealthy...

shall i just defrag the windows vista partition? would that help? or leave it as is...

Something is (seriously) wrong with your Office!

For me, Office 2007 takes up only 340 MB & thats a full install! Photoshop, just 214 MB :D

Regarding Vista partition size, gave mine 16 GB same as XP & only used 9 GB. Trick is, I don't keep my docs nor games on the same partition as the OS :)

mines about 500mb plus the cached files which is about another 500mb, full install minus frontpage and a few other things i'll never use.

Sorry I don't remember, but I have LOTS of photos and documents on the same partition as well as Adobe Acrobat and CS3, Dreamweaver, Flash, Office 2007 with lots of system recovery information also. I do have to be fairly conscious of not installing unecessaries when installing these apps, although my Office 2007 is the complete "run from PC" install. It's an old PC hence the small system partition - when I start again I will give it 50Gb so it's got plenty of room to perform a defrag.

i see... i have 12GB left now out of the initial 30GB i gave it, and havent even installed Adobe or Office yet... need a new HDD later i reckon.... :)
