Recommended storage drives for media server NAS?

What do people recommend for an ideal media server type setup in my home? Does it have to be NAS?

Looking at adding some type of server to my new home network so that all the TVs can access the same video files to watch. Anyone done this before? Any tips or advice?

I use Synology, ds418. Works well.i don't use any transcoding features though probably need more CPU power.

It's a four bay, quad core, 2gb ram. So it's fast. If you want 4k transcoding probably get the intro models.

Nas means any decide can access it.

When I want to watch videos I also use a 8tb hard drive usb, take from room to room. Could shuck it be leave it for now

Primary use is squeezebox and mass music/video/data backup.
