Hi All

I have noticed something funny about my Audiolab 8000S/P combo (Old 80s models here):

I have a Sonos Connect plugged into one of the S's inputs, and my Audiotechnica vinyl player on another one, and it seems no matter which input I use, the Audiolab seems to occasionally click but ONLY when using the record player (It makes the sound like I am switching inputs and the music cuts out for a brief moment) - The volume I play at seems to be correlated to the frequency of clicks (but I am not 100% sure on this). What would cause this?

Thanks

First guess, static build-up. Does the AT TT have an earthing wire? If so, where do you have it connected?

No there isn't I wasn't aware this was needed - thanks!
I'm guessing that you've got the AT-LP60 then? That one doesn't have a ground wire since it's likely to be used with other equipment that has no grounding terminal either.

AFAIK, the wallwart transformer for the AT-LP60 (in it's various guises) is double insulated (no earth), and I can't tell if your 80s 8000S is earthed through the mains cable as all I can find is images, reviews and manuals for the late 90s version.

To isolate if it is the TT, I'd suggest unplugging everything else from the amp except the TT connection and speakers. Then, if there are any USB connections to the TT then unplug them too. Finally, disconnect the mains supplies any other devices near the audio system. Why you're doing this is to eliminate any sources of electromagnetic interference such as dodgy switch-mode power supplies. Make sure that the TT and amp are plugged in to the same mains socket power source.

Run a set of tests, first the TT playing in to the amp alone. If it clicks and you've followed all the advice above, then it's either a dodgy TT or some problem with the amp. Substitute the Connect/ZP90 and make sure to unplug the TT wallwart transformer. If there are no clicks then you've isolated it to the TT. If the clicks are still there then it's probably the amp.

Where there were no clicks with the TT alone, reintroduce other components one at a time and test the system. Once the clicks return then you've found your culprit. Re-test by removing and then adding the same component to check for sure that the effect is repeatable.
