"Record winter predicted" Snow chains?

My UHP summer or whatever they are tyres managed fine in previous winters. Granted I don't have to tackle any real hills on my common routes and I would likely get stuck if I did, so I guess it depends where you live. If I lived in a more rural, hilly area I'd probably have a set of wheels with winter tyres in the garage which I could swap on if need be. They'd last forever, so would be quite cost effective I expect. I don't believe it each time they say "record winter predicted" though. It's just the usual media BS. Take it as it comes.

I missed 2 days last year on motorbike where i took the car to work.

As for the OP they cant even predict a day in advance never mind 4 weeks. Wake up in the morning look through the window. If its snowing its snowing.....

Beggers belief.

Reminds me of this..

Suffice it to say, I didn't go to work. My car was under 1 foot of snow and parked on a hill.
The *******s even docked me a day's salary because "you have to try, even it you're really late".
Had I called in sick, I would've been paid. FML.

Oh God, not James Madden from Exacta Weather. He literally predicts the apocalypse every winter and summer (droughts) and they obviously never happen, but he still thinks he is right and refuses to accept he is about as good at predicting the weather as Punxsutawney Phil.

All you have to do to be James Madden is set up a website, think of a name ending in "XXXX Weather", make a bunch of wild and scary weather predictions and await The Daily Express, The Daily Mail and the Sun to come wanting to quote you.

He's literally a tabloid's best friend because he predicts exciting weather apocalypses, which is why he is the only one ever quoted. Notice how they don't have any prestigious weather forecasters/agencies ever predicting this?

I have alloy wheels 225-40-18 so knew I wouldn't get anywhere in snow so bought 4 steel Mondeo wheels and good set of winter tyres - these work better than summer tyres from 7c down - they were fantastic last year in snow and have to say I would like to keep them on all year as they feel better and don't tramline like alloys.

And no need to clean them.

Dave

Not sure what alloys have to do with anything? Unless you're planning on stopping by sliding into a kerb.

AFAIK thats how it is if they have to close you get paid, if you can't make it in then they don't have to pay you (though many employers will).

Last winter when we got hit hardish I was about to call in and just as I was reaching for the phone it rang with work calling to say they weren't going to be able to open that day so I got paid, if I'd called in a few seconds earlier I wouldn't. (The rest of my team had phoned in earlier and didn't get paid so there was a bit of a riot when they found out).
