recording video output

Hi all,

My mate is after a hardware solution for recording video output from PC to monitor instead of relying on his pc/software.

He found a Hauppauge 01228 HD PVR High-Definition Video Recorder but that just seems like TV/Satellite to me.

Does anyone know of a hardware solution to this?

He wants to record hi def game footage without it raping his FPS.

A HD PVR would do what Fraps does without dropping a frame from his gameplay, yet they are expensive.

They do work for PCs however, my friend has one and is very happy.
