Recover from corrupt Hard Drive

My old Western Digital IDE 80GB drive has become corrupt and every time I try to access the drive it asks me if I want to format or not. When I try to chkdsk it in DOS it says:

"The type of the file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not availible for RAW drives."

I used the Easy Recovery Professional program and used the "RAW recovery" utility to try and recover the files, though when it finds them they all have odd names such as JPG.001.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to retain the names of the files and folders that are / were on the hard drive. Or if there is another way to try and save my hard drive.

Thanks

I got some files back, though not all of them, quite a few of the folders are empty and some of the files don't open, but a fair amount of the things that I needed I managed to get.
