Recovering after changing partitions

basically I had one harddrive split into two partitions, which I both formatted and turned into one single partition again, just before I realised I still had to copy some files of one of the partitions.

Can I still recover/undelete those files or is there not much hope?

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk - find instructions on what to do on the wiki or youtube.. deleting partitions creating a new one and formatting should be recoverable... worst case you will loose files names but get teh files back -
