Recovering files

Hi, I have a bit of problem.

I have a computer here that does not start and i need to get access to all the files, such as pictures and video on the hard drive. I have tried all the procedures to fix the computer but still no luck. System restore works but Vista still does not launch. Is there any way i can copy the files from the hard drive to a USB stick or other media? Also the computer doe not start in safe mode.

A Norton Ghost bootable CD - it will allow copying of files as part of it's recovery environment.

Or, boot off a live Linux CD and access the drives that way.

Does linux give you access to NTFS partitions?

Older versions didn't, more recent ones do.

Cheers for that just used Knoppix and got the files I needed.
