Afternoon all, a colleague's HDD failed a few months ago and was replaced and reinstalled. The machine is networked to the office server runinng SBS 2003 and has shared folders and Exchange looking after all our mail.

I need to find an email that was sent from her machine over a year ago. Is this possible? Am I right in thinking it would be on the server rather than on the old HDD which is toast now?

If its on the server, how would I search through the sent mail archives to find it?

Thanks for any help!

it would probably be in the sent items folder of the users mailbox on the exchange server, so you will either need to log on as the user, give a user full mailbox access to the user (so you can open the mailbox up as an additional mailbox in Outlook, or use something like Exmerge to PST the mailbox so you can browse the folder contents (bear in mind you should set it to copy the data rather than transfer it)

I would highly recommend just checking the sent items of the user to be honest, you won't get any information from the other methods if it's not there.

if the user was saving emails to PST files locally and these weren't backed up then the content would have been lost with the HDD failure.
