recovering from DOMS

Three simple steps to beating DOMS! :D

warmdown 5-10 minutes lightly on cross-trainer. Post stretch
Very gentle stretch session 2-3 hours later, and in the morning.
Man up.

That is all.

I did 5 circuits last night and ended with a 5 minute run, slowed down to a jog when i though i was going to throw up (;)) and today i dont ache much at all! So that's nice :)

Possibly. I did 50 Press ups, 50 chest presses, 50 steps with a 20kg sand bag, 150 jacknifes and 50 25kg squats, with 6 x 5 minute 10kph runs (the 6th was about 8kph tbh cause i wasn't feeling good).

Might not sound a lot to you guys but i've only been doing this for 6 weeks, and i was screwed!

Agreed Ant. Good post.

The biggest rule. Don't be a pussy and get training or I'll come and make you train! :D

That's great work mate, but what about the back :(

I'll see if one of my friends feels like getting giggy :p But I don't know what you mean by "you should be good for 6 weeks (without training)" as I'm planning of getting back in the gym as soon as I can actually fully straighten my arms... whoopsie.

You essentially get 6 weeks 'stress innoculation' for your muscles once the DOMS subsides. If you perform a new exercise for the first time, it will hurt like hell for about 3-5 days afterwards (studies indicate that cellular proteins are still leaking out into the blookd stream up to two weeks after DOMS first sets in) but then you will be fine after that. If you sit around without the exercise for about six weeks (will vary from person to person), and then hit it hard, you will suffer from DOMS again.

Has l-glutamine not been mentioned yet? Seriously, if I haven't trained for ages and I take that before bed I get very little DOMS, and it's always been black and white from what I can see (i.e. with or without taking it) -- not a placebo !

There are soooooo many studies regarding l-glutamine and its affects.

I've taken it and not noticed any difference to not taking it, but I know others who swear by it.

once you get seasoned, doms comes about differently, these days i only get crippling doms after changing up my plan or rep range, over the course of my normal workouts its nothing more than some minor soreness
